2nd Floor Windows Removed
With 24 hours notice, a group of four PRISC volunteers attacked a house in the Washington NC historic district, with the hope of reclaiming material to be used in the rehabilitation of Rose Haven and other historic houses. With the permission of the demolition contractor, we were able to remove 12 sets of weighted sash windows, 8 doors, miscellaneous wood pieces, and a pedestal tub from the house’s second story. Had we had more time (and muscle), additional pieces could have been recovered from the main floor.

The “Haul”

2 Days Later …
The following Monday, the house was razed to provide more parking spaces for the owner. (Cue Joni Mitchell’s song…) We do appreciate the opportunity to retrieve what we got, but are saddened that we lost another historic home.
